Transport facilities in Thailand have improved drastically in the recent times, due to large influx of visitors and tourists to the country. The most commonly used means of conveyance to reach Thailand is by air. Thailand can also be accessed from neighboring countries and places by trains, roads, ships or small boats.
Thailand has two airports in Bangkok and a number of international airports across the country. Regional international airports include Hat Yai, Koh Samui and Phuket in the south and Chiang Mai in the north. The flag carrier is Thai international. Budget carriers, Thai AirAsia and Nok Air, are also based in Thailand, as is Bangkok Airways. The country is well served by low cost domestic flights.

Thai Airways - the domestic arm of big sister Thai International Airlines - operates an impressive route network throughout Thailand. The Thai rail system is surprisingly good and even offers overnight services to many cities from Bangkok. A modern highway network links every part of Thailand. Domestic bus services offer fast means of travel while air-conditioned tour coaches offer more comfort. Visitors possessing valid International Driving Licenses can hire automobiles in many international car hire companies such as Avis and Hertz, operating in major cities and resorts like Bangkok, Phuket, or Samui Island.
Koh Samui is well connected with other cities through different transport facilities. The island benefits from direct flights to and from: Bangkok, Hong Kong, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Pattaya and Phuket, with planned flights to Dubai, Shanghai and Taipei- making it one of Asia’s most accessible beach destinations. Koh Samui can also be reached by ferry, speedboat and car ferry.
Once arrived on Koh Samui, you can either rent a car at the airport, take a taxi, or use 'pick up trucks' that circum-navigate the island. Ko Samui also has its specialized Motorcycle Services, from Step Throuts, dirt bikes to choppers.
